Paris around 1970 as a meeting point for free jazz: on “Alors!!!” saxophonist Michel Portal, John Surman, bassist Barre Phillips, drummer Stu Martin and percussionist Jean-Pierre Drouet play together. The American trumpeter Ted Curson recorded “Pop Wine” in Paris.
Plus drummer Jacques Thollot with “Watch Devil Go” and Jef Gilson with his group Malagasy, which combines jazz with music from Madagascar.
