Score on vinyl: composed film music from Morricone to Hisaishi

In short: A score is the music composed specially for a film, mostly instrumental – unlike a soundtrack with pop songs. At the Vinyl Room you’ll find scores by Ennio Morricone, Joe Hisaishi, Danny Elfman and Maurice Jarre, many of them as editions from recent years. There are currently 126 records.

What is a score?

A score tells a film through music: themes for characters, suspense, silence. Ennio Morricone shaped Italian film music with his westerns and thrillers, Joe Hisaishi wrote the music for Hayao Miyazaki’s films, and Danny Elfman the sound of many Tim Burton films. Since the 2010s, specialist labels have released many scores on vinyl for the first time or again, often with new artwork.

What to look for

Many scores come out today in limited runs, often on coloured vinyl. Many of our copies are still sealed. With older originals, label, catalogue number and runout help.
