Rose Royce

Rose Royce on vinyl: from “Car Wash” to “Wishing On A Star”

In short: Rose Royce came from Los Angeles and were produced by Norman Whitfield, who had shaped the Temptations before. The music for the film “Car Wash” (1976) was their breakthrough; with singer Gwen Dickey came ballads such as “Wishing On A Star” and disco tracks for the dance floor. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Rose Royce records.

What makes Rose Royce special?

Rose Royce could do both: funk with horns and wah-wah guitar, and ballads to melt to. “In Full Bloom” (1977) contains “Wishing On A Star” and “Ooh Boy”, “Rainbow Connection IV” (1979) the driving “Is It Love You’re After”, which later resurfaced in “Theme From S-Express”.

Plus “Golden Touch” (1980), “R.R. Express” and “Perfect Lover” from the later years.
