The Temptations

The Temptations on vinyl: from “My Girl” to psychedelic soul

In short: The Temptations from Detroit are among Motown’s best-known groups. In the sixties they sang hits such as “My Girl”; from the late sixties producer Norman Whitfield made psychedelic soul with them – pieces such as “Cloud Nine” and the long, dark “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone”. The Vinyl Room currently has 9 Temptations records.

What makes The Temptations special?

Five voices, perfect choreography – and a willingness to change that wasn’t a given at Motown. We have “Together” and “On Broadway” with Diana Ross & The Supremes from the late sixties.

From the Whitfield era there’s “Solid Rock” and “1990”, plus “Papa Fue Un Bala Perdida” – an edition with the Spanish title of “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone”. From the later years come “Wings Of Love” and “Power”.
