Lounge

Lounge on vinyl: music for the bar and the evening

In short: Lounge stands for relaxed, elegant music of the kind played in American hotel bars and supper clubs in the fifties and sixties – piano, organ, soft horns and familiar melodies. DJs rediscovered the style in the nineties, and bands such as Nouvelle Vague followed later. The Vinyl Room currently has 21 lounge records.

What is lounge?

Live from the bar: Bob Allen plays on “More Bob Allen At The Christopher Inn - Volume 2”, Jimmy Allen And The Brassworks on a recording from the “China Trader” in Toluca Lake, plus The Leland Four with a live album.

From Europe come Augusto Martelli with “Grand Prix”, Ennio Morricone with his film score “Veruschka” and Serge Gainsbourg live at the Théâtre des Capucines in 1963. On “Bande À Part” Nouvelle Vague from France play punk and new wave songs of the seventies and eighties in bossa nova style.
