Ennio Morricone on vinyl: film music beyond the westerns

In short: Ennio Morricone (1928–2020) from Rome wrote music for hundreds of films. He became world-famous with Sergio Leone’s westerns, but his work reaches much further – from crime films and dramas to horror and experimental sounds. In 2016 he won the Oscar for “The Hateful Eight”. The Vinyl Room currently has 4 Ennio Morricone records.

What makes Ennio Morricone special?

He could create a whole world with a few notes. For John Carpenter’s “The Thing” (1982) he wrote dark, pulsing music that matches the cold of the Antarctic. “Veruschka” shows his playful, jazzy side of the early seventies.

Plus “Il Bandito Dagli Occhi Azzurri” (1980) and “Noi Lazzaroni” – music from Italian cinema and television.
