Dance-pop on vinyl: hits with a club beat

In short: Dance-pop is pop for the dance floor: catchy choruses over club beats. Since the eighties it has joined catchy pop songs to disco, funk, R&B and electronic beats, with house influences growing stronger later on. The Vinyl Room currently has 45 dance-pop records.

What is dance-pop?

From the eighties into the nineties: Billy Ocean with “Suddenly”, the Pet Shop Boys with “Disco”, The Beloved with “Happiness” and Prince with The New Power Generation and “Diamonds & Pearls”.

Pop of today: Dua Lipa with “Future Nostalgia”, Robyn with “Honey”, Ariana Grande with “Sweetener”, Calvin Harris with “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1” and Disclosure with “Settle”.

What to look for

Among our dance-pop records the 2010s are the largest group; most are European editions; label, catalogue number and year of release help you tell which edition you have – it’s noted with each copy.
