How often?

Curtom on vinyl: Curtis Mayfield’s label

In short: Curtis Mayfield founded Curtom in Chicago in 1968 to have more control over his own music. His solo albums came out here – among them “Super Fly” – as did the later records of the Impressions and soul from Leroy Hutson. At the end of the seventies Linda Clifford brought disco. The Vinyl Room currently has 15 Curtom records.

What makes Curtom special?

Curtis Mayfield wrote about city life, pride and hope – and sounded gentle and funky at the same time. We have his albums “Roots” and “Back To The World” and, later, “Never Say You Can’t Survive”. The Impressions are here with “The Young Mods’ Forgotten Story”, “Preacher Man” and “Loving Power”.

Leroy Hutson, who succeeded Mayfield in the Impressions, stands for fine seventies soul, Linda Clifford with “If My Friends Could See Me Now” for the disco era. Plus smaller names such as Mystique, Ava Cherry and Patti Miller.
