Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi on vinyl: from chillwave to psych-funk

In short: Behind Toro Y Moi is Chaz Bear from South Carolina. Around 2010 his dreamy, hazy synth-pop made him one of the names of chillwave; after that he kept changing direction – to funk, psychedelia and guitar rock. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Toro Y Moi records.

What makes Toro Y Moi special?

“Causers Of This” (2010) sounds like summer in slow motion: soft beats, synthesizers and voices in a haze. “Underneath The Pine” (2011) added live instrumentation and funk, and “June 2009” collects early recordings.

“What For?” (2015) shows him with guitars and seventies pop, and “Mahal” (2022) on Dead Oceans turns colourful, psychedelic and playful.
