How often?

The Jacksons on vinyl: disco and soul after the Jackson 5

In short: When the Jackson 5 moved from Motown to Epic in the mid-seventies, they became The Jacksons – with Michael as lead singer and Randy instead of Jermaine. The first records were made with the Philadelphia producers Gamble & Huff; after that the brothers produced themselves and scored big hits in the middle of the disco era. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Jacksons records.

What makes The Jacksons special?

“Goin’ Places” (1977) still shows Gamble & Huff’s Philadelphia sound. With “Destiny” (1978) the brothers took control themselves – it includes “Blame It On The Boogie” and “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)”.

“Triumph” (1980) brought funky disco for the big stages, and “2300 Jackson Street” (1989), named after the address of their family home in Gary, was a late family album.
