How often?

Suede on vinyl: glam, drama and the start of Britpop

In short: Suede were founded in London in 1989 and are regarded as pioneers of Britpop. In the early nineties singer Brett Anderson and guitarist Bernard Butler combined glam rock, Bowie-style pathos and big-city stories – and helped shape the early Britpop wave. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Suede records.

What makes Suede special?

Anderson’s theatrical voice and Butler’s glittering guitar: even “Metal Mickey” (1992) sounded like something new. “Dog Man Star” (1994) is their big, dark masterpiece – the last album with Bernard Butler. “Love & Poison” captures a 1993 concert at the Brixton Academy.

After a long break Suede returned in 2013 with “Bloodsports”, powerful and anthemic. Plus “Demos” with early versions of their songs.
