Nirvana on vinyl: the album that made grunge famous

In short: Nirvana came from Aberdeen in the US state of Washington: singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic and, from 1990, drummer Dave Grohl. With “Nevermind” (1991) and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” they took grunge from the Seattle scene out into the world. The Vinyl Room currently has 5 Nirvana records.

What makes Nirvana special?

Loud and quiet, angry and vulnerable: “Nevermind” combined crashing guitars with melodies you never forget. “In Utero” (1993) followed with a deliberately rawer sound.

Kurt Cobain died in 1994. The collection “Nirvana” (2002) gathers the most important songs; a 30th-anniversary edition of “Nevermind” was also released. Dave Grohl later founded the Foo Fighters.
