Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters on vinyl: Dave Grohl’s rock band

In short: Dave Grohl founded Foo Fighters in 1994, after becoming known as Nirvana’s drummer. He recorded the debut almost on his own, and it grew into one of the world’s great rock bands. Vinyl collectors love “Wasting Light”, recorded analogue in Grohl’s garage, and “Sonic Highways”. The Vinyl Room currently has 19 Foo Fighters records.

What makes Foo Fighters special?

Dave Grohl moved from the drums to the microphone and the guitar – and proved he could write songs too. The one-man project “Foo Fighters” (1995) became a band that combines loud guitars with big melodies. From “There Is Nothing Left To Lose” most albums came out on RCA, for example “In Your Honor” with a loud half and a quiet half.

Interesting for vinyl fans: the band deliberately recorded “Wasting Light” (2011) analogue on tape in Grohl’s garage, and for “Sonic Highways” (2014) it travelled through eight American cities and recorded one song in each. And “Medium Rare” is a record of cover versions that came out for Record Store Day.
