How often?

New Order on vinyl: synth-pop and club music from Manchester

In short: New Order formed in Manchester in 1980 after the death of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris carried on with Gillian Gilbert – and combined guitar music with synthesizers and the rhythms of New York’s clubs. “Blue Monday” (1983) made them famous. The Vinyl Room currently has 13 New Order records.

What makes New Order special?

New Order often thought in 12-inch singles and singles that weren’t on the albums. We have early singles such as “Procession / Everything’s Gone Green”, “Sub-Culture” and “Touched By The Hand Of God”, plus “1963” and, from the 2000s, “Someone Like You” and “Jetstream”.

Of the albums we have “Low-Life” (1985) and “Brotherhood” (1986) from the Factory years, plus “Get Ready”, “Waiting For The Sirens’ Call” and “Lost Sirens”. In the UK they came out on Factory until 1992, then on London Records; many earlier US releases came out on Qwest.
