Madonna

Madonna on vinyl: pop for the dance floor

In short: Madonna moved to New York in the late seventies and signed with Sire in 1982. Since then she has reinvented pop again and again – with disco, house, electronica and Latin. Many of her songs also came in long club versions for DJs. The Vinyl Room currently has 13 Madonna records.

What makes Madonna special?

Our focus is on singles and remixes: “Like A Prayer” and “Express Yourself” (1989), “Keep It Together”, “Bad Girl”, “Rain” and “Secret” from the nineties, “Music” (2000), the “American Dream Mixes” of “American Life”, “Nothing Fails” and “Hung Up” (2005) with its sample from ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”. Add the 2019 album “Madame X”.

Since 1992 many records came out through Maverick, Madonna’s own label with Warner. For DJs the remixes are interesting because they often sound quite different from the radio versions.
