José González

José González on vinyl: quiet songs with classical guitar

In short: José González comes from Gothenburg and has Argentine roots. With a gentle voice and finely picked classical guitar he writes calm, focused songs – he became known for his version of “Heartbeats” by the Swedish band The Knife. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 José González records.

What makes José González special?

A sparse arrangement, a powerful effect: one guitar, one voice, sometimes a handclap. “Veneer” (2003) has “Heartbeats”, “In Our Nature” (2007) is more reflective – and there’s a record of remixes of it.

“Vestiges & Claws” (2015) brings more rhythm and colour, and on “Local Valley” (2021) he sings in English, Spanish and Swedish. Plus “Cycling Trivialities”.
