Eddie Kendricks

Eddie Kendricks on vinyl: the Temptations’ falsetto, solo

In short: Eddie Kendricks (1939–1992), with his high, floating falsetto, was one of the defining voices of the Temptations – heard, for example, on “Just My Imagination”. In 1971 he began a solo career on Tamla and in the seventies found his way from soul to early disco. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Eddie Kendricks records.

What makes Eddie Kendricks special?

His solo recordings increasingly embraced the dance floor: “Keep On Truckin’” from the album “Eddie Kendricks” (1973) was a US number one and is regarded as an early disco track. “Girl You Need A Change Of Mind”, released a year earlier, is often cited as a forerunner of disco.

In our stock you’ll find his first solo album “All By Myself” (1971), “Eddie Kendricks”, “For You” (1974) and “Goin’ Up In Smoke” (1976).
