In short: Behind Bon Iver is Justin Vernon from Wisconsin. He recorded his debut “For Emma, Forever Ago” almost alone in a remote hunting cabin in winter – quiet guitars, layered falsetto, plenty of space. With “Bon Iver, Bon Iver” that grew into a bigger, more colourful sound. The Vinyl Room currently has 5 Bon Iver records.
“For Emma, Forever Ago” sounds like cold and warmth at once: songs about loss and new beginnings, carried by Vernon’s high, vulnerable singing. “Blood Bank” continued down that path.
“Bon Iver, Bon Iver” (2011) opened up the sound with horns, synthesizers and places as song titles – it also includes “Holocene”.
