Theme

Theme on vinyl: theme tunes and music for film and television

In short: Theme gathers theme tunes from film and television – and music written for exactly that purpose. It covers soundtracks, jazz versions of well-known film themes and library music, the production music broadcasters and film-makers could choose for their pictures. The Vinyl Room currently has 23 theme records.

What is theme music?

From the cinema: Eric Serra wrote the music for Luc Besson’s “Le Grand Bleu”, James Galway and Henry Mancini team up on “In The Pink”, and Jimmy Smith plays film music on the Hammond organ on “The Cat”, arranged by Lalo Schifrin.

Jazz meets the screen: Junior Mance plays film themes in arrangements by Melba Liston on “The Soul Of Hollywood”, and Wynton Kelly is here with “Comin' In The Back Door”. For library music fans: the Italian compilation “Musica Per L'Immagine II”, Sandro Brugnolini with “Utopia” and Janko Nilovic with “Classical Phases”.
