Nu-Disco

Nu-disco on vinyl: disco for the new millennium

In short: Nu-disco developed from the nineties and gained prominence in the 2000s: producers and bands took up the disco, boogie and funk of the seventies and eighties again and combined them with modern electronic production – often with re-edited versions of old records, so-called edits. The Vinyl Room currently has 13 nu-disco records.

What is nu-disco?

The mirror ball, newly polished: from Paris come Breakbot with “By Your Side” and Gaspard Augé with “Escapades”, and the Australian band Parcels is represented with their album “Parcels”.

Plus Jamiroquai with “Automaton”, Róisín Murphy with “Hit Parade” and Tom Misch with “Beat Tape 2”. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee stand for the art of the edit.

What to look for

Many nu-disco tracks come out on 12-inches for DJs; label, catalogue number and year of release help you tell which edition you have – it’s noted with each copy.
