How often?

Flamenco on vinyl: guitar and song from Andalusia

In short: Flamenco comes from Andalusia in southern Spain and combines song (cante), guitar (toque), dance (baile) and hand-clapping (palmas). It was shaped above all by the Andalusian Gitanos; since 2010 flamenco has been part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Vinyl Room currently has 20 flamenco records.

What is flamenco?

The guitar as a solo instrument: Sabicas is represented with “Soul Of Flamenco” and “Solo Flamenco”, as is Carlos Montoya – both made the flamenco guitar known internationally. Rafael Riqueni plays on “Juego De Niños”, José Menese sings on “... Los Que Pisan La Tierra...”.

Flamenco meets pop: in the seventies Santa Esmeralda combined disco with flamenco guitars, the Gipsy Kings from the south of France combined rumba flamenca with pop; Rosalía is here with “Motomami”, an album that mixes flamenco roots with reggaeton and pop.

What to look for
