How often?

Electroacoustic on vinyl: instrument meets electronics

In short: Electroacoustic music combines acoustic or recorded sounds with electronic processing. Its roots go back to the late forties and early fifties – to musique concrète in Paris and electronic music in Cologne – today many musicians move freely between both worlds. The Vinyl Room currently has 16 electroacoustic records.

What is electroacoustic?

An instrument that transforms: Musica Elettronica Viva mixed instruments and electronics on “Spacecraft” back in the sixties. Today Sarah Davachi combines organ, Mellotron and other keyboard instruments on “Antiphonals”, and Iranian musician Saba Alizâdeh the kamancheh with electronic sounds.

Danish composer Mads Emil Nielsen is represented with his “Framework” series, plus Ora Clementi, Valentina Goncharova and bass clarinettist Gareth Davis.

What to look for

Many of these records come out on small labels; label, catalogue number and year of release help you tell which edition you have – it’s noted with each copy.
