EBM

EBM on vinyl: music for the body

In short: EBM stands for electronic body music – hard, danceable electronics from the early eighties with pumping sequencer basslines and shouted vocals. Its roots lie with German bands such as DAF and Liaisons Dangereuses, and the Belgian band Front 242 made the term known. The Vinyl Room currently has 18 EBM records.

What is EBM?

A beat like a hammer blow: the British band Nitzer Ebb is represented many times here – from “Let Your Body Learn” to “Ebbhead”.

From Düsseldorf come Die Krupps with “The Machineries Of Joy”, from the early German scene Liaisons Dangereuses with “Los Niños Del Parque”. Plus MOTOR and remixes of John Carpenter.

What to look for

Many EBM tracks came out on 12-inches with several mixes; label, catalogue number and year of release help you tell which edition you have – it’s noted with each copy.
