Third Man Records

Third Man Records on vinyl: Jack White’s record company

In short: Jack White, known from The White Stripes, founded Third Man Records in Detroit in 2001. Since 2009 the label has been based in Nashville, with shop and studio under one roof, and it even runs its own pressing plant. Third Man thinks in records: many editions are made as collector’s items. The Vinyl Room currently has 21 Third Man records.

What makes Third Man special?

At the centre is Jack White himself: “Elephant” by the White Stripes, his solo albums “Lazaretto” and “Fear Of The Dawn” as well as the single “Love Interruption”. Add Karen Elson with “The Ghost Who Walks” and “The Truth Is In The Dirt”.

The singles that guests recorded at Third Man’s studio in Nashville are especially appealing: Tom Jones with “Evil”, Laura Marling with “Blues Run The Game”, First Aid Kit with “Universal Soldier” and Beck. It’s a label with a sense of humour, too – Jerry King’s “The Auctioneer” and Amy Walker’s “Discourse On Accents” are spoken-word records, not music.
