What makes Strut special?

From Sun Ra there is “Lanquidity”, a 1978 album with a soft, funky sound, and “Swirling”, the Sun Ra Arkestra’s 2020 studio album under Marshall Allen. Plus “In Egypt”, the Arkestra’s meeting with Egyptian jazz musician Salah Ragab, and the Salah Ragab & The Cairo Jazz Band collection “Egypt Strut”.

From Nigeria comes Orlando Julius, who recorded “Jaiyede Afro” with The Heliocentrics; from Detroit the jazz collective Tribe with “Hometown: Detroit Sessions 1990-2014”. New bands carry it on – Nubiyan Twist with “Jungle Run”, Onipa with “We No Be Machine” and the Kondi Band around Sorie Kondi from Sierra Leone with “We Famous”.
