Sky Records on vinyl: Cluster, Eno and German electronics

In short: Sky Records was founded in Hamburg in 1975 by Günter Körber, who had previously helped build the label Brain. Sky became the home of Cluster – Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius – and their many side projects; Brian Eno and electronic experiments of the eighties followed. The Vinyl Room currently has 8 records on Sky Records.

What makes Sky Records special?

Cluster turned krautrock into quiet, floating music of synthesizer, organ and piano. With Brian Eno they recorded “Cluster & Eno”, and as the trio Eno, Moebius, Roedelius came “After The Heat” – both are regarded as important records of early ambient. Plus Cluster with “Cluster ’71” and “Curiosum”.

The side paths: Moebius & Plank – with producer Conny Plank – mixed electronics with dub on “Rastakraut Pasta”, Roedelius created quiet electronic miniatures on “Wenn Der Südwind Weht”, and Hamburg’s Asmus Tietchens built cool, austere electronics on “In Die Nacht” and “Spät-Europa”.
