Brian Eno

Brian Eno on vinyl: ambient, art rock and sound research

In short: Brian Eno started with Roxy Music in the early seventies, then made his own art-rock albums and, with ambient, shaped a new way of listening: music that fills a room without demanding attention. As a producer he shaped records by Talking Heads and U2 and worked with David Bowie. The Vinyl Room currently has 10 Brian Eno records.

What makes Brian Eno special?

He saw the studio as an instrument. “Another Green World” (1975) and “Before And After Science” (1977) combine pop songs with soundscapes, and “Discreet Music” (1975) lets music almost create itself. With “Music For Airports” he gave ambient its name.

Of interest to German collectors: in Germany, Eno worked with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius of Cluster – “Cluster & Eno” and “After The Heat” came out on Sky Records. More recent are “Small Craft On A Milk Sea” with Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams and the scores for the documentary “Rams” and the television series “Top Boy”.
