Reprise Records

Reprise Records on vinyl: from Sinatra to Neil Young

In short: Frank Sinatra founded Reprise in Los Angeles in 1960 to have more freedom as an artist. In 1963 Warner Bros. took a majority stake, and the Sinatra label became a home for songwriters and rock bands – Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and, in the US, Fleetwood Mac. The Vinyl Room currently has 19 Reprise records.

What makes Reprise special?

The early years belong to the Sinatra family and their circle: Frank Sinatra conducts on “Conducts Music From Pictures And Plays”, Nancy Sinatra sings country on “Country, My Way”, and Lee Hazlewood is here with “Love And Other Crimes”. Guitarist Barney Kessel recorded “Bossa Nova” for Reprise.

Then came rock: Joni Mitchell’s concert recording “Live At Carnegie Hall – 1969”, Fleetwood Mac with “Future Games”, Neil Young with “Hawks & Doves” and, decades later, “Earth” with Promise Of The Real. From the nineties there’s Chris Isaak, the funk of Roger and the hip-hop of Lord Finesse.
