How often?

Priority Records on vinyl: West Coast hip-hop

In short: Priority Records, founded in Los Angeles in 1985, grew big with gangsta rap: the records of Eazy-E’s label Ruthless – N.W.A. among them – reached the shops through Priority, and in the nineties so did those of Master P’s No Limit. The Vinyl Room currently has 11 records on Priority Records.

What makes Priority Records special?

The core: Eazy-E with “Eazy-Duz-It” (1988) and N.W.A. with “100 Miles And Runnin’” (1990) – raw, direct and formative for West Coast rap. From Texas come the Geto Boys with “Uncut Dope”, a collection of their well-known tracks.

From the No Limit camp come the soundtrack “I’m Bout It” and the compilation “West Coast Bad Boyz II”, plus Snoop Dogg with “Beautiful / Ballin’” and “Selections From Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Bo$$”. A surprise: Funkadelic with “The Electric Spanking Of War Babies” – Priority reissued the 1981 album.
