Mastercuts

Mastercuts on vinyl: the groove collections from Britain

In short: In the nineties Mastercuts was a British series of compilations, each devoted to one style: “Classic Rare Groove”, “Classic Funk”, “Classic Salsoul”, “Classic Mellow” and many more. Because many tracks appear in their long versions, DJs liked to reach for these records. The Vinyl Room currently has 32 Mastercuts records.

What makes Mastercuts special?

Each volume is like a stack from a connoisseur’s record crate. “Classic Soul Mastercuts Volume 1” was compiled by Jazzie B of Soul II Soul, the “Rare Groove” volumes dig up rare seventies funk and soul, and “Classic Salsoul” is devoted to the New York disco label Salsoul.

We also have excursions into other styles: “Classic Reggae”, “Classic Garage”, “Classic Balearic”, “Classic Hip Hop”, “New Jack Swing” and “Mastercuts Breaks” for anyone hunting for drum breaks. Plus the calm “Classic Mellow” volumes and, as an exception, a live album by Maze.
