Interscope on vinyl: from Dr. Dre to Lady Gaga

In short: Interscope Records was founded in Los Angeles in 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Ted Field and became known early on for West Coast hip-hop with Dr. Dre; later Eminem from Detroit also shaped the label. Then came pop stars like Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey and rock bands like Queens Of The Stone Age. The Vinyl Room currently has 52 Interscope records from the nineties to today.

What makes Interscope special?

Jimmy Iovine had been a recording engineer and producer, for Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith among others – with Interscope he built a label that spotted trends early. In the nineties West Coast hip-hop ran through Interscope, in 1999 Dr. Dre’s “2001” came out, shortly afterwards Eminem from Detroit with “The Real Slim Shady”. The Ruff Ryders with Eve, The LOX and Jadakiss belong to that period too.

Pop and rock were there early too – examples from the 2000s and 2010s include Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”, Lana Del Rey’s “NFR!”, the “A Star Is Born” soundtrack, Queens Of The Stone Age with “Era Vulgaris” and Beck. Some of our Interscope records are European pressings.
