Hoctor Records

Hoctor Records on vinyl: music for the dance class

In short: Hoctor Records made records for dance teaching – for ballet, jazz dance and tap at American dance schools. The music: jazz, funk, show tunes and percussion, often with clear rhythms to count along to. That is exactly what makes the records interesting today for collectors looking for unusual grooves. The Vinyl Room currently has 15 Hoctor records.

What makes Hoctor Records special?

The titles give away the purpose: “Music For The Jazz Class”, “Music For Modern Dance”, “Music For Tap Dancing”, “Invitation To The Dance”. Then there’s “Jazz With Luigi” with jazz-dance teacher Luigi (Eugene Louis Faccuito), “Patterns In Jazz”, “Freestyle Jazz” and “Le Jazz Hot”.

For groove collectors the seventies and eighties records are especially exciting – “Right On For Dance”, “Strictly Percussion” with Daniel Barrajanos and Ben Bagby’s records. If you like library music, you’ll find something here.
