Harvest

Harvest on vinyl: EMI’s prog label

In short: EMI founded Harvest in London in 1969 as a home for the new, experimental rock music. The label became famous above all through Pink Floyd, whose albums from “Ummagumma” to “The Wall” came out on Harvest in the UK. Later Capitol also used the name in the US for newer bands. The Vinyl Room currently has 16 Harvest records.

What makes Harvest special?

Pink Floyd are the heart of the label: we have “Ummagumma”, “Atom Heart Mother”, “Meddle”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals” and “The Wall”. Add early prog – Deep Purple’s “The Book Of Taliesyn” and The Battered Ornaments with guitarist Chris Spedding.

Because EMI companies in many countries pressed their own Harvest editions, collectors find differences in label, sleeve and matrices – we have records from Scandinavia, for example, including Ralph Lundsten’s “Discophrenia” and Jørgen & Sten. From Germany comes the band Triumvirat, from recent years Best Coast and TV On The Radio.
