Yazoo

Yazoo on vinyl: synthesizers and a soul voice

In short: Yazoo were Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet from Basildon in Essex. Clarke had just left Depeche Mode, Moyet had sung in blues and punk bands. In just two years, 1982 and 1983, they made the albums “Upstairs At Eric’s” and “You And Me Both” – cool electronics with a warm, powerful voice. The Vinyl Room currently has 9 Yazoo records.

What makes Yazoo special?

“Only You” was their first hit, followed by “Don’t Go”, “The Other Side Of Love” and “Nobody’s Diary”. In the US they were called Yaz because of a blues label of the same name – and there “Situation” became a club hit in a remix.

We have the second album “You And Me Both” (1983), “Nobody’s Diary / State Farm” and, from the nineties, “Don’t Go (Re-Mixes)” with new versions. The records came out on Mute, in the US on Sire.
