The Miracles

The Miracles on vinyl: Smokey Robinson and the early Motown sound

In short: The Miracles were among the first stars of Berry Gordy’s company in Detroit – with Smokey Robinson as singer and songwriter. “Shop Around” (1960) became one of the first big Motown hits, later came “The Tracks Of My Tears” and “The Tears Of A Clown”. Their records came out on Tamla. The Vinyl Room currently has 13 Miracles records.

What makes The Miracles special?

Smokey Robinson’s high, soft voice and his lyrics full of wordplay made the Miracles unmistakable. We have the albums from the Smokey Robinson years, from “Away We A Go-Go” and “Make It Happen” via “Special Occasion”, “Live!” and “Four In Blue” to “One Dozen Roses” and “Flying High Together”.

In 1972 Robinson left the group; with Billy Griffin as new singer the Miracles had one more big hit with “Love Machine” in 1975. From this period we have “Do It Baby” and “Don’t Cha Love It”.
