How often?

Slave on vinyl: funk from Dayton, Ohio

In short: Slave came from Dayton, Ohio, a city that produced funk band after funk band in the seventies and eighties – from the Ohio Players to Zapp. Founded by Steve Washington, the band scored its first hit with “Slide” in 1977 and shaped early-eighties boogie with fat bass lines, horns and synthesizers. The Vinyl Room currently has 14 Slave records.

What makes Slave special?

Slave sounded harder and more danceable than many soul bands of their time; with Steve Arrington they gained a distinctive singer. We have the Cotillion albums “The Concept”, “Stone Jam”, “Show Time”, “Visions Of The Lite”, “Bad Enuff” and “New Plateau”, plus the record “Warning / Just A Touch Of Love / Funky Lady”.

From the later years we have “Unchained At Last”, “Make Believe” and “Slave 88”. Many DJs and collectors look for Slave records for their grooves in funk and boogie sets.
