How often?

Roy Ayers on vinyl: vibraphone, sunshine and jazz-funk

In short: Roy Ayers (1940–2025) from Los Angeles started out as a jazz vibraphonist and with his band Ubiquity is regarded as one of the fathers of seventies jazz-funk. Songs such as “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” from 1976 sound warm and light – and were later sampled by many hip-hop producers. The Vinyl Room currently has 4 Roy Ayers records.

What makes Roy Ayers special?

The vibraphone shimmers over soft grooves, with vocals, electric piano and lots of sunshine. Here you’ll find the 1973 film score “Coffy” for the film of the same name with Pam Grier – funk for the big screen.

From the disco era comes the 12-inch “Get On Up, Get On Down”, from the eighties “Silver Vibrations” and “Programmed For Love”.
