How often?

Reuben Wilson on vinyl: soul jazz on the Hammond organ

In short: Reuben Wilson (1935–2023) was an American organist who recorded soul jazz and jazz-funk for Blue Note and Groove Merchant in the late sixties and early seventies – danceable, earthy and full of groove. Many of these recordings were later rediscovered by DJs and hip-hop producers. The Vinyl Room currently has 4 records by Reuben Wilson.

What makes Reuben Wilson special?

The Hammond organ as a groove machine: on “Love Bug” and “Blue Mode” he plays soul jazz with funk rhythms and soul tunes of the day.

At Groove Merchant he moved further towards jazz-funk with “The Sweet Life”. Plus “Bad Stuff!”.
