Nas

Nas on vinyl: from “Illmatic” to “Stillmatic”

In short: Nas’s real name is Nasir Jones, and he grew up in Queensbridge in the New York borough of Queens. Many consider his 1994 debut “Illmatic” one of the best hip-hop albums ever – dense, vivid rhymes over beats by DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, Large Professor and L.E.S. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Nas records.

What makes Nas special?

He tells stories like a writer: on “Illmatic” everyday life in Queensbridge becomes closely observed vignettes, carried by jazzy samples and hard drums.

With “Stillmatic” from 2001 he deliberately picked up where his debut left off. Here you’ll also find the EP “Apocalypse Nas: Prelude To... Stillmatic”.
