Mew

Mew on vinyl: dream pop and prog from Copenhagen

In short: Mew come from Hellerup near Copenhagen. On their albums the band combines indie rock with prog, dream pop and big melodies; singer Jonas Bjerre’s high voice shapes the sound. With “Frengers” (2003) the band became known internationally. The Vinyl Room currently has 6 Mew records.

What makes Mew special?

Their songs sound like little journeys: intricate rhythms, walls of guitar, then delicate moments again. “Frengers” brought the breakthrough, “No More Stories” (2009) became more playful and colourful.

On “+ -” (2015) bassist Johan Wohlert was back in the band, and “Visuals” (2017) shows Mew more compact and poppier.
