Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz on vinyl: nineties retro rock and soul

In short: In the late eighties Lenny Kravitz from New York brought back the sound of the late sixties and seventies: Hendrix-style guitars, soul and funk, often recorded analogue with many instruments played by himself. With “Let Love Rule”, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” and “Circus” he became a world star in the nineties. The Vinyl Room currently has 16 Kravitz records, mostly singles and 12-inch singles.

What makes Lenny Kravitz special?

When “Let Love Rule” came out on Virgin in 1989, it sounded as if it came from another time – exactly what made Kravitz special. He often plays guitar, bass, drums and keyboards himself and loves the warm sound of old studio equipment. Hits like “Always On The Run”, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” and “Believe” show his rock side – as does the riff-driven “Is There Any Love In Your Heart” –, “Stand By My Woman” and “I Build This Garden For Us” his soul side.

Our focus is on nineties singles and 12-inch singles – plus the “Stankonia Remix” of “Again” and later records such as “Strut”.
