David Bowie

David Bowie on vinyl: a life of transformations

In short: David Bowie reinvented himself again and again – as Ziggy Stardust, as a soul singer, in Berlin with “Low” and “Heroes”, as a pop star with “Let’s Dance” and right to the end with “★ (Blackstar)”, released in 2016 two days before his death. Our selection focuses on the nineties and his late work. The Vinyl Room currently has 18 Bowie records.

What makes David Bowie special?

In the seventies Bowie was on RCA – from that period we have “Aladdin Sane” and the concert album “David Live”. After that he kept looking for new sounds: soul, electronic music with Brian Eno, dance music with Nile Rodgers. The eighties and nineties brought “Never Let Me Down”, the “Fame 90” remixes and the jazz-tinged “Black Tie White Noise”.

His late work was widely praised by critics: “Reality”, “The Next Day” and “★”, plus the EPs “The Next Day Extra” and “No Plan”. Many of these records came out on Bowie’s own label, ISO.
