Alfa Mist

Alfa Mist on vinyl: jazz with a beatmaker’s mind

In short: Alfa Mist is a pianist, composer and producer from East London. He came to jazz through making hip-hop beats and taught himself the piano. His music combines warm jazz harmonies with hip-hop grooves and is part of the new British jazz scene. The Vinyl Room currently has 7 Alfa Mist records.

What makes Alfa Mist special?

He thinks like a beatmaker and plays like a jazz pianist – calm chords, long arcs, plenty of room for guitar, trumpet and bass. “Antiphon” and “Structuralism” came out on his own label Sekito; “Bring Backs” was released on Anti- and links the music with spoken word.

Plus “On My Ones”, “7th October (Epilogue)” and the record with Jordan Rakei from the “Blue Note Re:imagined” series, on which each of them plays a Blue Note piece anew – Rakei “Wind Parade”, Alfa Mist “Galaxy”.
