Spring Records

Spring Records on vinyl: soul and funk from New York

In short: Spring Records was founded in New York in the late sixties and distributed by Polydor. Three names shape the label: Joe Simon with his warm Southern soul, Millie Jackson with cheeky, frank songs about love and cheating, and the Fatback Band with hard funk. The Vinyl Room currently has 21 Spring records.

What makes Spring Records special?

Joe Simon had many of his best-known hits here, such as 1971’s “Drowning In The Sea Of Love”, produced by Gamble & Huff from Philadelphia. We also have “The Power Of Joe Simon”, “Mood, Heart And Soul” and “Today”.

Millie Jackson turned soul into a conversation between grown-ups – “Feelin’ Bitchy” and “For Men Only” show why her records have a cult following. The Fatback Band stands for the funky side of the label, from “NYCNYUSA” to the electro-funk of “Is This The Future?”.
