R&S Records on vinyl: techno from Ghent

In short: R&S Records was founded in Ghent, Belgium, in the early eighties by Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes and is regarded as one of the defining European techno labels of the nineties. Early Aphex Twin records came out here, plus artists from Detroit, Germany and Japan. The Vinyl Room currently has 8 records on R&S Records.

What makes R&S Records special?

R&S connected Detroit with Europe: Model 500 – the project of techno pioneer Juan Atkins – is here with remixes of “The Flow”, Japan’s Ken Ishii with “Sleeping Madness”, DJ Hell with “My Definition Of House Music” and the Berlin duo Sun Electric with “O’locco”.

Later the label broadened: Boom Boom Satellites from Japan mixed breakbeats with rock on “Out Loud”, and Djrum combines piano, voices and bass music on “Portrait With Firewood” (2018).
