How often?

Pablo on vinyl: Norman Granz and the masters of swing

In short: Norman Granz had invented Jazz at the Philharmonic and founded Verve when he started a new label in 1973: Pablo, named after Pablo Picasso. Here long-time companions such as Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie met musicians like guitarist Joe Pass. The Vinyl Room currently has 26 Pablo records.

What makes Pablo special?

A treasure for piano fans: Art Tatum’s solo and group recordings from the fifties, which Granz had produced at the time, came out on Pablo as “The Tatum Solo Masterpieces” and “The Tatum Group Masterpieces” – in our stock with Roy Eldridge, Benny Carter and Louis Bellson, among others. Guitarist Joe Pass shows on “Virtuoso” what a single guitarist can do.

Add Zoot Sims with “Zoot Sims And The Gershwin Brothers” and “Warm Tenor”, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis with the Tommy Flanagan Trio, Oscar Peterson with Roy Eldridge, Count Basie with a small group, Milt Jackson with strings and the Jazz at the Philharmonic concert recording from Montreux 1975.
