How often?

Concord Jazz on vinyl: from a Californian festival to the new London scene

In short: Concord Jazz was founded in 1973 by Carl Jefferson in Concord, California – out of the circle of the local jazz festival. In the seventies and eighties the label stood for polished, swinging jazz by seasoned musicians; later new voices joined, from the London scene for example. The Vinyl Room currently has 7 records on Concord Jazz.

What makes Concord Jazz special?

The classic years: the LA4 with guitarist Laurindo Almeida, saxophonist Bud Shank, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne combined bossa, classical and swing. Ray Brown is also here with his trio on “The Red Hot Ray Brown Trio”, and Art Blakey plays “Live At Kimball’s” with his Jazz Messengers.

The present: Nubya Garcia from London with “Source”, plus two records on which other musicians reinterpret her pieces.
