Chrysalis

Chrysalis on vinyl: from Billy Idol to Stockhausen

In short: Chrysalis was founded in London in the late sixties by Chris Wright and Terry Ellis – the name combines both their names. The label stood for rock and pop from Jethro Tull via Blondie to Billy Idol and Sinéad O’Connor, but also dared the unusual. The Vinyl Room currently has 7 records on Chrysalis.

What makes Chrysalis special?

The eighties and early nineties: Billy Idol with “Rebel Yell”, Sinéad O’Connor with her debut “The Lion And The Cobra” (1987) and “Nothing Compares 2 U”, a Prince song that made her world-famous in 1990. Plus Icehouse from Australia with “Fresco”.

And two surprises: Earthling with Bristol trip-hop on “Radar” – and Karlheinz Stockhausen with “Ceylon / Bird Of Passage”, contemporary composition on a rock and pop label.
