How often?

Valerie Simpson on vinyl: the songwriter at the microphone

In short: Valerie Simpson (born 1946) from New York wrote soul classics such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “You’re All I Need To Get By” for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell with Nickolas Ashford (1941–2011) as the duo Ashford & Simpson. In the early seventies she recorded solo albums on Tamla, a Motown label. The Vinyl Room currently has 4 records by Valerie Simpson.

What makes Valerie Simpson special?

From songwriting to the microphone: on her 1972 album “Valerie Simpson” she sings and plays piano.

We also have the album in a European edition; alongside it comes the compilation “Keep It Comin’” with recordings from her two early Tamla solo albums.
