Max Richter

Max Richter on vinyl: new classical between strings and electronics

In short: Max Richter, born in Hameln in 1966 and raised in England, combines strings, piano and electronics into calm, haunting music. He became known with “The Blue Notebooks” and his reworking of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”; his music is heard in many films and series. The Vinyl Room currently has 10 Max Richter records.

What makes Max Richter special?

Richter writes music that leaves space – often with spoken texts. On “Songs From Before” Robert Wyatt reads, “24 Postcards In Full Colour” consists of short miniatures. With “Recomposed: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons” he took a classic apart and put it back together anew.

We also have “From Sleep” and the “Sleep Remixes” – from the world of his eight-hour-plus work “Sleep” –, the music for the series “Taboo”, “Voices 2” and “Exiles”.
